Our story

Hello, I'm Riley Ludwig, the founder and cook behind Starboard Side Cafe. Raised in Houston, Texas, my wife and I share a deep-rooted passion for local small businesses and community support. With my wife graduating from Texas A&M Galveston and my extensive experience in the restaurant industry since 2007, we have developed a special fondness for preserving and championing the history of Galveston Island throughout our concept. I have developed not just a knack for crafting breakfast but a deep passion for it. To me, it's not merely about food; it's about creating an experience, and a warm and welcoming atmosphere that defines true hospitality. Our venture, Starboard Side Cafe, is our tribute to Galveston's port legacy, symbolizing the history of the island being a place for shipping and receiving goods. It's a nod to the past, a tribute to the island's resilience, and a promise to serve a quality breakfast that reflects the charm and character of this unique culture. Fueled by my love for crafting breakfast dishes and our commitment to giving back, we prioritize using locally sourced ingredients in our recipes, that can be found on or near the island of Galveston.

Our menu is a celebration of breakfast and lunch, merging seamlessly into what we know as "brunch". Every dish is carefully crafted, and integrated with locally sourced ingredients, connecting us to the vibrant vendors on or near the beautiful island of Galveston. Our commitment to local sourcing is not just about flavor; it's about contributing to and fostering the spirit of our community.

We work with local farmers and suppliers to source as many of the ingredients that we use, such as our milk, eggs, seasonings, veggies, and even our bacon. We believe in giving back and supporting other small businesses within our community.
